Say what you want about Kanye, he is talented and a force to be wreckened with. The more people tell me how much they dislike him, the more I like him. I can look past all the hype, controversy, and the ego and really look at what he is doing as an art form. He is pushing hip-hop to embrace art and not just be about bling, grills, and songs about being in the club. He is a master at being misunderstood and stirring up controversy, but is he right? Wal-mart, and even iTunes banned the cover of his new album (above) because of it’s suggestive material. Nirvana, Jane’s Addiction, Roxy Music, The Cars, and The Rolling Stones have all incorporated nudity or sexually explicit album covers and they are not banned from stores. So why is Kanye West’s album cover banned? He should feel very proud because he is able to make people have a public discussion, but his music always delivers. Don’t even pretend that when “Gold Digger” comes on the radio you don’t sing along. This new album is no exception. It’s full of singles and great songs that finds Kanye pushing the creative artistic envelope even further and raising the bar for all hip-hop artists.
